TOLEDO, OH (WTVG) —

Toledo could be getting a dog park very soon. It’s been talked about for months. A local group wants a park where dogs can run unleashed in a fenced in area within a city of Toledo park. The mayor is onboard.

According to Kevin Mullan, the founder of Toledo Unleashed, they have been fundraising and are still looking for some final sponsors but want to get started ASAP.

The future dog park will be located adjacent to the Nature Center at Ottawa Park. It is no cost to the city. The dog park will be funded by sponsors and membership fees. The park is more than likely to open by the end of this month.

We had SO much fun at the Pug Play Group at Poco’s Playhouse in Perrysburg yesterday, can’t wait to host something like this at a DOG PARK!!!

Hey Dog Lovers!  Don’t think we disappeared on you…we’ve just been on “paws” lately, awaiting the new arrival of Mayor Bell and approval for Toledo’s first DOG PARK!  We are well on our way and we will keep you up to date.  Just remember to check back frequently for new information!

We had a wonderful day yesterday with the exciting news our friends have been waiting on for some time now…The dog warden will no longer kill pitbull puppies and all healthy puppies will go up for adoption at the Humane Society.  This is a step in the right direction for Toledo! Click here to read the full story.  We are so proud of our friends that have been fighting for what they believe in for the last year.  We know this only means good things for Toledo Unleashed and that our fight will soon pay off with a wonderful dog park for our fur babies!

With a new Mayor just around the corner, it’s time to get geared up for the REAL thing this time.  While on the campaign trail, soon-to-be Mayor Mike Bell told Toledo Unleashed it was a “no-brainer” to let us build and maintain our own dog park!

Let’s show him that we have the support, resources and energy to make this happen.  If we start now, we’ll have enough momentum by January 1 – and then be able to break ground in mid to late March.

A dog park IS coming to Toledo, and will be open for Summer 2010.
